The weapon matrix is a concept that refers to an operational integrity between the weapon on one side and the fighter on the other side.
This target has always been a real challenge facing military leaders all over the world since it is commonly known that “the weakest link in the fighter and weapon matrix is the fighter himself”. The effects of these challenges have increased dramatically in the past few years due to the super-fast development of weapon systems and explosives used in live operations. This has encouraged specialised military institutes to conduct in-depth researches on the impact of the stress from live operations on the fighter’s physical ability as well as on his psychological and emotional stability. Based on these researches, a new concept has emerged in the military and law enforcement arenas to narrow the gap between “Know and Do” (what fighters learn and how they can apply these skills on the battlefield under the extreme physical and psychological stress involved in live operations).

The studies and researches that have been conducted since the First World War and continued throughout all the conflicts and wars which peaked during the invasion of Iraq in 2003, have shed the light on an alarming live battlefield reports which indicated that more than 700 marines have been subject to mental severe nervous breakdown despite the advanced training they have previously received. The results of the study and notes taken on the ground stated that this phenomenon could have been avoided if the soldiers who experienced nervous breakdown have been trained according to Reality Based Training techniques, methods, and tools in a safe and efficient manner as indicated by Clauzwitz in his book “On War” stating the following fact: “It is immensely important that no soldier, whatever his rank, should wait for war to expose him to those aspects of active service that amaze and confuse him when he first comes across them. If he has met them even once before, they will begin to be familiar to him, the thing that can be achieved through field training simulating operational reality”.
